The Egyptian Film ‘Photocopy” makes it to London

Published

on

The Egyptian Film “Photocopy” made it to London and is set to screen on the 13th of December, the movie was first premiered at the Gouna Film Festival and was awarded the Golden Star for Best Arabic Feature Narrative Film.

The film is written by Haitham Dabbour, directed by Tamer Ashry and starred Mahmoud Hemeida, Sherine Reda, Farah Youssef, Aly Tayeb and Ahmed Dash, among others.

The plot revolves around an elder man who led a normal life as a data-entry typist in a governmental job and was never married. When he decides to retire early and opens a photocopy shop, his life takes a new turn and he manages to change the depressing reality of his lifestyle.

Dabbour explains that the movie tackles issues that concern the elderly and thus opening new topics that were portrayed in the Egyptian cinema, he also added that it was challenging for him to try and maintain high artistic sides and still make it entertaining for the audience. But it’s fair to say that he successfully achieved that; seeing how the script got nominated for the Sawiris Cultural Awards, and it should be praised for he has been working on it since 2013.

Hopefully the film can create more hits during its screening in London and generate more admiration not only to the script, but to the overall work of the crew that will reflect the Egyptian creativity in filmmaking.

Netflix’s new series “You” is changing perspectives about the online world

Published

Netflix has been keeping its viewers up with a number of terrifying series, such as The Haunting of Hill House, Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch, and the movie Bird Box. All of which left the audience jaw dropped and clinging to their pillows, and now there is yet another show to be added to the list, “You.”

The story is based on a book by Caroline Kepnes and is starring Shay Mitchel, Elizabeth Lail and Penn Begdley who’s known for his role as Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl.

The story begins with Joe, a bookstore manager, spotting the beautiful and aspiring writer Beck, and he falls in love with her. But to what extent? That is the problem.

If you begin the series without watching the trailer first, you’ll probably get the impression that it’s a rom-com.

A guy falling madly in love with a girl and going beyond everything to protect her, but when it becomes literal, that is when events take a twisted turn.

The series will leave you fearing two things, obsessive love and the internet. Those who watched the series now have a newly found respect for privacy, and would probably think twice before sharing every little detail of their lives online.

I wouldn’t want to ruin the fun for you, but it’s a must watch and I’ll just leave you with some of the comments from scared audience.

“I’ve just finished watching #YouOnNetflix and honestly? What. The. Hell. The Internet and social media is scary. I say as I’m posting on social media.”

“Not even 10 minutes into #YOU on Netflix and I’m creeped the f* out already.”

Now, it’s your turn to comment! Happy watching, and don’t forget your pillow.

Small talents’ art work make it to an exhibition in Galleria40’

Laila Diab, a person driven by her passion for art and teaching, believes that art soothes the soul and for that; she dedicated her work life for art and talented students who aspire to one day be like her. She decided to start her own special business and teaches art at her home based studio with a limited number of students per class, the reason behind this is to give students her full attention and to not compromise the quality of her teaching.

On the 7th and 8th of December, Laila Diab held an exhibition in Galleria40’ to showcase the work of her students, no profit was intended and the expenses of holding such an event was fully covered by her. The main target audience was friends and family of her students, in attempt to acknowledge their hard work and praise their art. That must have surely given the students the glimpse of what it would be like to one day have their own exhibitions and guests, the intent behind the event left us overwhelmed with the amount of support a teacher can give to her students.

Laila also added, that she selectively choose students with talent and she tries to help develop their skills as well as identify their artistic identity, this happens when students gain full understating of their personality and they link it to their art.

“There are so many art studios in the countries, and that why I wanted to distinguish myself from them by maintaining a higher quality and give my full focus to the students; through teaching a minimal number.” Laila added.

I personally felt so moved seeing the amount of effort she had exerted for her students, with no funds whatsoever or sponsorship; she personally delivered all the paintings from her studio to the exhibition.

Khadija Mahmoud, one of Laila’s students expressed her love for art and how helpful her teacher is, she was surprised when told about the exhibition and felt really excited to see her work put up on the wall and showcased to an audience.

Her last comment is what inspired me personally the most: “I believe art should be taught differently, it’s all in the eye and the soul as they are connected. how you look at things and details, and how you feel. It’s not just colors and papers, it’s the language of the soul.”
